All Around Us: The Pontypool Deep Place Study

The Pontypool Deep Place Study has been undertaken on behalf of the Sustainable Places Research Institute at Cardiff University. It seeks to further develop the Deep Place approach to sustainable place-making I developed by with Professor Dave Adamson. The Deep Place approach was first adopted through a case study of Tredegar, Blaenau Gwent during 2014. This second study in Wales was undertaken in Pontypool, Torfaen during 2016.

Deep Place is a holistic approach to sustainable place-making. It is grounded in an empirical concern about how to achieve more economically, socially, environmentally and culturally sustainable places and communities. The approach continues to be strongly influenced by, and indeed seeks to influence in return, theories of Social Exclusion, Transition Theory, the Total Place public service reform agenda, and Foundation Economics.
